Seafood, Rawbar & Riesling Revelry -- Opening Reception
$50.00
Chef Tom Gutow, owner of the Castine Inn along Maine’s rugged coast, promises to regale Classic attendees with a seafood extravaganza fit for Neptune. Oysters, clams, shrimp, and yes, Maine lobster, as well as fried clams served Eastcoast-style in paper cones, buttery smoked whitefish terrines, and more. Northern Michigan’s premier grape, the noble Riesling, also happens to be the ultimate seafood wine so look for award-winning wines from names like Chateau Grand Traverse, Peninsula Cellars, Left Foot Charley, Black Star Farms, Chateau Fontaine, and Shady Lane, as well as other stunners from around the world. (Eclectic table of European and Domestic beers hosted by Europ Brews, as well.) We don't want to hear that your dated ideas of Riesling still conjure up cloyingly sweet fruit bombs 'cause this grape is capable of a multitude of dry crisp ever-so-entertaining styles, and has absolutely become the chic varietal amongst the wine industry's most revered palates. (Check out Dick Scheer's class. He calls Riesling the world's best white wine grape.) The Opening Reception is a tented, stand-up affair.
